SEPA deals with most formal information requests under the EIRs, as the majority of the information we hold is environmental.

Schedule 6 of the Environment Act 1995 established SEPA as a non-departmental public body (NDPB ) accountable to Scottish Ministers.

The broad framework within which SEPA operates is set out in the SEPA Management Statement published by the Scottish Government.  The current document was published in 2005.  In particular, it sets out:                                                   

 • the rules and guidelines relevant to the exercise of SEPA's functions, duties and powers;
• the conditions under which any public funds are paid to SEPA; and
