Environmental Protection and Improvement (EPI)

EPI National

The department deals with pollution prevention, mitigation of environmental harm, environmental improvement work, environmental licensing, and technical support. It also manages environmental partnerships, the co-ordination of national regulatory tasks and changes, and the provision of licensing and registry services.

EPI North

Our main role is to protect the environment. We do this by being an excellent regulator, assisting business and industry so that they understand their environmental responsibilities and comply with regulations. By implementing good practice they will also be able to realise economic benefits.

EPI South East

Our main role is to protect the environment. We do this by being an excellent regulator, assisting business and industry so that they understand their environmental responsibilities and comply with regulations. By implementing good practice they will also be able to realise economic benefits.

EPI South West

Our main role is to protect the environment. We do this by being an excellent regulator, assisting business and industry so that they understand their environmental responsibilities and comply with regulations. By implementing good practice they will also be able to realise economic benefits.

EPI Legal

The EPI Legal Department for provides environmental, regulatory and public law advice to SEPA.

EPI Business Support

The department provides dedicated business support to the directorate’s staff (approx 550 members), including business planning, resource allocation, and budgetary monitoring.

Change Programmes - EPI

I am responsible for the practical delivery of two change programmes: Local engagement and Better regulation, and the integration of all 11 programmes (particularly those relating to Scotland’s Environmental and Rural Services – SEARS – and planning changes).
