28 December 2012
Pascal Lardet, Flood Unit Manager for the Scottish Environment
Protection Agency (SEPA) said:
"At present specific flood warnings have been issued for
the Carse of Lennoch to Lochlane, Crieff to Innerpeffray and Glen
Lyon. More general flood alerts are also currently in place for
Tayside, Argyll and Bute, Central, Fife, Scottish Borders, Skye and
Lochaber, Wester Ross and the Western Isles.
"Rainfall will be heaviest over north Argyll, Lochaber and
western Tayside during today. This evening the heaviest rainfall
will be in Dumfries and Galloway and the western Borders, while
strong to gale force southerly winds will affect the Outer
Hebrides.
"There is a risk of coastal flooding impacts in the North and
West during Friday and Saturday, in addition to a widespread risk
of surface water and fluvial flooding impacts (with eastern regions
at greatest risk).
"A surge and large waves are both expected to build along
northern and western coasts from Friday evening into Saturday
morning, and will be accompanied by strong local winds in the North
West and Western Isles. Rivers may be impacted in Stirlingshire
(River Teith, River Devon), Aberdeenshire and Aberdeen City (Don at
Kintore), Easter Ross and Great Glen (Glass at Kerrow Wood), and
Perthshire (Ruchill Water in Comrie, River Earn, River Tay and
River Isla).
"Members of the public, in areas which could be affected, are
encouraged to remain vigilant and mindful of the conditions in
their locality, especially if travelling. Businesses and members of the public can access the
latest flood updates for their area, and sign up to Floodline, our
