Habitats
Emissions to air from the process industry
installations that SEPA regulates might have a negative impact on
habitats, both in the local area around the installation and on a
regional, national and even international scale. SEPA has a duty to
consider these possible impacts when regulating process industry
installations and must take measures to prevent that sensitive
habitats deteriorate because of industry emissions.
The following pages describe the European and national
legislation that is put in place to protect habitats and provide
some examples of the work that SEPA carries out to monitor, assess
and regulate the effects of atmospheric emissions on habitats.
