SPRI activity codes

The E-PRTR Regulation lists 65 activities. SPRI has an additional 2 activities to accommodate reporting of radioactive substances. The table below enables operators to identify whether they are affected by the associated reporting obligations.

Operators are required to report the main E-PRTR activity carried out on the site and all other E-PRTR activities on the site. The main activity is often determined by the main economic activity for which the company is registered. If several activities take place on a site and all are of a similar size and value, the most polluting activity is used to determine the main activity. All releases and off-site waste transfers are attributed to the main activity. For example, at a chemical works the main activity might be “4(a).x Dyes and pigments”, but there might also be a wastewater treatment system on site. If the system is covered under E-PRTR then the operator must report it as a sub-activity.

The activities are grouped into 10 activity sectors:

  1. energy;
  2. production and processing of metals;
  3. mineral industry;
  4. chemical industry;
  5. waste and waste water management;
  6. paper and wood production and processing;
  7. intensive livestock production and aquaculture;
  8. animal and vegetable products from the food and beverage sector;
  9. other activities, and
  10. radioactive substances act activities;

The table below provides complete details of the reporting activities and capacity thresholds in SPRI.
