Carbon reduction comittment
CRC Energy Efficiency Scheme
The CRC (Carbon Reduction Commitment) Energy Efficiency Scheme
is the UK Government’s new mandatory energy saving and emissions
reduction scheme. If your organisation used at least one
half-hourly electricity meter during 2008 then you should now
have registered
on the Environment Agency website.
The level of participation was based on how much
electricity your organisation used.
- If your organisation used less than 6,000 megawatts per hour
(MWh) then you only need to register a simple information
disclosure.
- If your organisation used at least 6,000 MWh
of electricity then you must monitor energy consumption and
purchase allowances from the UK Government for each tonne of carbon
dioxide you emit.
You may be liable to a civil penalty if you
did not meet your legal obligations under CRC,
registration closed on 30 September 2010. As there was
a two week validation period within the registration
process, all qualifying organisations should
have registered at the earliest opportunity.
Comprehensive
information on the scheme has been available from the
Environment Agency, as werer details on the
charging scheme. The guidance should have been read before
registering for the scheme.
If you need help or have any queries about
what your organisation needs to do to comply please:
