How to get a permit

Installations in Scotland which are participating in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) must use the permit application.

Operators of installations covered by the scheme must apply to their regulator to obtain a permit using the appropriate permit application form. The permit will contain conditions that have to be complied with in respect of emissions of carbon dioxide, including monitoring and reporting requirements.

The distinction between permits and allowances should be noted: a permit needs to be held to enable allowances to be allocated to your installation if covered by the scheme, but it does not determine the actual amount allocated.

  • ETS9 application for a variation to a permit
  • ES10 application to surrender a permit
  • ETS 11 application to transfer one or more Schedule 1 processes to another operator

The permit application should be signed and sent in hard copy to SEPA.
