Scottish Pollutant Release Inventory Reporting : Petroleum Activities Guidance Note
(Closed 31st Jan 2005)

Please note that the second in a series of new guidance notes to assist industrial operators in making their Scottish Pollutant Release Inventory (SPRI) returns has been placed on the Scottish Environment Protection Agency SPRI web-site. This particular note is specific to interests related to refineries and petroleum sector activities. Similar notes are also scheduled for development over the next two years covering inter alia the sector industry interests of metals, cement, lime, incineration, paper/pulp, and chemicals.

The guidance has been produced under contract using the services of JACOBS working in close liaison with an appropriate consultative committee composed of industry sector experts. The principal objective of the guidance is to help operators submit more reliable and consistent returns concerning their annual mass emissions to air and water. The representatives on the consultative committee have been responsible for seeking and feeding back views and comments from within the sector as the guidance has been drafted.

The present note represents the version agreed with the industry sector and now intended for publication. The present notification is to promote wider awareness in advance of publication, especially recognising that combustion activities are often also pertinent to wider processing and manufacturing industry. Please feel at liberty to forward this information, widely, to colleagues in your industry sector. Although this circulation is not primarily intended for comment at this final stage, points related to accuracy will be gratefully received.
