We want your views on the new version of the rules we'll use to permit existing farms.

Standard Farming Installation Rules have simplified the way intensive livestock farms apply for, and are granted, permits under IPPC.

We are now consulting on a new version of the rules that we'll use to permit existing farms that must apply for a permit from November 2006 to January 2007.

The guidance IPPC - How to comply builds on the work we've done on our Standard Farming Installation Rules with the pig and poultry industries and the Scottish Executive. The main changes are:
  • Renaming the document has to distinguish it from previous versions of the Standard Farming Installation Rules as it has significantly changed.
  • Many of the rules are the same as standard permit conditions that apply to all sectors regulated by PPC. The conditions that farmers will see in their permit will match the rules in IPPC - How to comply.
  • We've made the document easier to use, by splitting the guidance for rules into two sections: 'How can I meet the requirements of this rule?' and 'Where can I get further information?'.
  • We've included more information for existing farms.
  • We've coordinated the development of guidance so as to ensure consistency of approach with the Environment Agency and Environment and Heritage Service Northern Ireland.
  • We present this guidance as a single document. However, it is split into chapters covering different aspects of farm management that apply to either pigs, poultry or both. This is so you only need to read the chapters relevant to you.
