SEPA Code of Practice for Owners and Operators of Quarries and other Mineral Extraction Sites

(Closed 11th August 2006)

Background

This Code of Practice has been produced as a result of the withdrawal of the former Code of Practice published by the Scottish Executive. SEPA has taken this opportunity to bring the Code up to date and compliant with the Water Framework Directive as transposed into Scots Law by the Water Environment and Water Services (Scotland) Act 2003 and the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations 2005. In addition to sections on good practice to avoid pollution of the water environment the Code now includes a section on assessing the potential impacts from waste rock and overburden from opencast coal workings.
