The Radioactive Substances Act 1993 (as amended): Application for authorisation to dispose of radioactive wastes from Torness Power Station

Notice is hereby given that six applications have been made by British Energy Generation Limited to the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) for an authorisation under Section 13 of the above Act to dispose of radioactive wastes from the premises at Torness Power Station, Dunbar, East Lothian, EH42 1QS.

In accordance with the requirements of Section 16(5) of the above Act, SEPA is specifically consulting with the following bodies: The Committee on the Medical aspects of Radiation in the Environment (COMARE), The Committee on Radioactive Waste Management (CRWM), The Health Protection agency, Radiation Protection Division (formerly NRPB), The Environment Agency (EA), Scottish Natural Heritage (SNH), Scottish Water, The City of Edinburgh Council, East Lothian Council, Scottish Borders Council, Lothian NHS Board, NHS Borders, Cumbria County Council, Copeland Borough Council, Hampshire County Council and New Forest District Council.

The applications and existing certificates may be viewed on the SEPA website or inspected by any interested party between 09:00 and 17:00 hours at the following SEPA office:

Written representations may be made to The Registrar, SEPA at the address given above and, if received before 2 June 2006 will be considered by SEPA when determining the application. Comments are invited on the understanding that they may be made public by SEPA. Comments will only be treated as “not for publication” if a specific request to that effect is made to SEPA.
