Fish farming
Scotland is world-renowned for its excellent shellfish and
salmon. This is due in part to a generally high quality water
environment. However, fishing industries can negatively affect the
environment, with potential impacts including odour, land
contamination from chemical or oil spills and waste disposal such
as dead fish and packaging.
At SEPA, we have a duty to control discharges to surface and
groundwater, including tidal waters out to a three-mile limit. We
provide information and advice to help you reduce the impacts of
your business on the environment, avoid prosecution, increase
efficiency and potentially cut your operating costs.
