Retail
Retailers are under increasing pressure to limit the
considerable impact their activities have on our environment.
Energy is used to power production centres, distribution centres
and shops. Stock is transported across the country and overseas,
food is packaged and chilled, and purchases are carried home in
plastic bags.
SEPA offers guidance and advice to help businesses in the retail
industry reduce their environmental impact and save money. Many
retailers are reducing their energy consumption and greenhouse gas
emissions by switching to more energy-efficient technologies, and
it’s now common practice for retailers to encourage the reuse and
recycling of plastic bags. We’re also seeing a reduction in the
amount of packaging that’s used for produce.
