Demonstration/catchment projects
There are a wide range of partnerships projects throughout Scotland. Many projects are tackling water quality issues in a particular catchment and realising that diffuse pollution issues must be considered. The following list is some of the projects that are happening in Scotland. If you know of any other projects please let the team know and we can update the website. Work is underway to review the contribution partnership projects make to tackling diffuse pollution and to how this contribution can be maximised.
Diffuse Pollution Advice
DPI is working with external organisations in the promotion of standard diffuse pollution advice. As a first step o FWAG, SAC and SEPA staff have completed questionnaires to ascertain their views on diffuse pollution issues, mitigation measures and delivery of environmental advice to the farming industry. The results of the questionnaire will help focus training needs for the surveyed organisations, help facilitate delivery of Best Management Practices (BMP’s) to the farming industry and provide a benchmark for tracking future changes in attitudes and awareness of diffuse pollution issues.
Dunfermline Eastern Expansion (DEX) Community Engagement Project
The DEX Community Engagement Project is aimed at raising awareness of the role, benefits and bio-diversity of the drainage ponds on the eastern edge of Dunfermline in Fife, Scotland.
DEX stands for Dunfermline Eastern Expansion and this area is currently the subject of massive development for housing, shopping, business and leisure uses.
The idea of the project is to involve the local community in understanding and appreciating the ponds, which are a valuable landscape attraction and a habitat for many wildlife species.
