Additional advice for businesses
Although a lot of the advice on preparing your home can be
applied to your business, there are also a few points to consider
specifically relating to how floods can affect your business.
- Insurance – check your policy covers loss of revenue and
provides sufficient cover for your stock and buildings.
- Staff training – a business flood plan should be set up similar
to one you should have for your home. Your staff will be briefed
already on fire procedures and they should have the same level of
information in case of flooding.
- Emergency numbers – make a list and keep these in a place all
staff can easily access.
- Ensure business critical records and equipment such as computer
servers have necessary protection.
- Identify which stock or equipment needs protective measures to
prevent damage. Hazardous materials will need special care and
attention.
- Consider staff who may have had their homes flooded. The Scottish Flood
Forum can help you set up a flood plan and provide support to
people.
