The Floodline Service

Floodline is a public information service providing current flood alerts and warnings, together with advice on what to do before, during and after a flood.

The service is provided through a dedicated 24 hour telephone helpline (0845 988 1188) and the SEPA website.

What information can Floodline provide?

  • A general alert or Flood Watch, if SEPA staff are concerned that river, tidal or weather conditions indicate that flooding is possible. In certain areas there may be a local flood warning scheme where more detailed alerts, Flood Warnings and Severe Flood Warnings are available. You can call Floodline to find out if there is a flood warning scheme for your area.

  • Listen to recorded messages providing up to date information about any flood alerts that are in force in Scotland, England and Wales.

  • Speak to one of our trained operators who will provide immediate practical advice on what to do before, during and after a flood.

  • Ask the operators for a quick-dial number, giving you direct access to any recorded flood warnings for your local area.

  • Request Floodline factsheets and other flooding related material.
