Public registers established under Part IIA
Local authorities and SEPA are required to establish public
registers under Part IIA. The Act and Regulations specify what
information is to be made available in public registers, subject to
exclusion on the grounds of national security and commercial
confidentiality. The public register will contain particulars
relating to the remediation of contaminated land, as well as
notifications of the identification of contaminated land and the
designation of special sites. The public registers will become
populated with information as land is identified as contaminated.
In time they will provide an indication of the extent remediation
carried out under Part IIA. SEPA's Part IIA public register will
only contain particulars relating to special sites, whilst local
authority Part IIA registers will contain particulars relating to
contaminated land and special sites in their area
