Court Decision in SEPA's Favour
Issued on 23 July 1997

William Forrest & Son (Paisley) Ltd, animal renderer at the Omoa Works at Cleland Motherwell, applied to the Court of Session for a judicial review of new conditions imposed on the company by the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.

On 23 July Lord Johnston found in favour of the Agency in deciding that the conditions should stand pending the final outcome of the case.

SEPA imposed conditions on the Lanarkshire plant designed to eliminate any offensive smell, caused by the rendering of animal carcasses.

Calum MacDonald, Divisional Manager North, SEPA West Region said:

I am very pleased that Lord Johnston found in SEPA’s favour. This is the first time that such an action has been taken against the SEPA West Region, and we are confident that the matter will now be resolved satisfactorily
