Chinglebraes Incinerator
Issued on 22 April 1998 - Ref 17/98

A meeting was held yesterday (21 April 1998) between Orkney Islands Council officials and representatives of Sacone, the manufacturer’s of the cull cattle incinerators which the council have purchased and installed at Chinglebraes.

The meeting was to enable a discussion on the reasons for the series of failures to meet the minimum air emission standards and to explore the way forward for both Orkney Islands Council and Sacone. SEPA is pleased to have been able to act as facilitators for this meeting.

There was a positive outcome from the discussions and SEPA understands that Sacone have agreed to assist with additional training for Orkney Islands Council staff, with interpretation and explanation of the reasons for the emission failures and to participate with the Orkney Islands Council in developing proposals for overcoming the problems. SEPA anticipates that a report and proposals for a further programme of operational trials and testing will be forwarded to the Orkney Office of SEPA in the near future for consideration.
