Scottish Companies Learn to Reduce Waste and Increase Profits
Issued on 26 October 1998 - Ref 36/98
A seminar is to be held in Grangemouth which will demonstrate how companies can increase their profits by reducing their wastes. The seminar, Waste Minimisation: Making it Happen, Making it Pay will be held on 9 November 1998 at the Inchyra Grange Hotel, Grangemouth.
This is a free one-day seminar with presentations and workshops for companies and business support organisations throughout Scotland. It is being organised by the Environmental Technology Best Practice Programme* in collaboration with the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) and The Scottish Office.
The message is that sound environmental practice can also make sound economic sense. Companies will learn how businesses in Scotland have increased their profits by reducing their wastes. Business support organisations will learn how they can help businesses to implement waste minimisation programmes by setting up waste minimisation clubs and running workshops.
Lord Sewel, Scottish Office Minister for Agriculture, the Environment & Fisheries, is giving the keynote address. Alasdair Paton, Chief Executive of SEPA will chair the seminar.
SEPA is supporting the event as part of its overall effort to promote effective waste management throughout Scotland. SEPA is currently developing the first ever National Waste Strategy for Scotland, which is based on the principles of sustainable development, and which will be published next year.
The Grangemouth seminar will see the launch of SEPAs National Waste Minimisation Strategy, a major SEPA project under the National Waste Strategy umbrella.
