Bonfires
Issued on 4 November 1998 - Ref 38/98
Guy Fawkes Night is almost upon us. Bonfires and fireworks are what are usually associated with this time of year. Many of us take the opportunity for getting rid of old rubbish by putting it on the bonfire. SEPA warns that unfortunately, this can be dangerous and hazardous to health and the environment. Care should always be taken that none of the following items are put onto a bonfire:
All of these items can release toxic fumes into the air which can affect the immediate crowd around a bonfire, many of them being children. They can also have a more lasting, negative effect on the environment.
Remember, remember, children are particularly vulnerable at this time of year.
