Groundwater Regulations Charging Scheme

SEPA has issued a consultation on a proposed Scheme of Charges in Respect of Authorisations under the Groundwater Regulations 1998.

The Regulations come into effect on 1 April 1999, but there are transitional provisions enabling applications for authorisations for existing activities to be made in the period 1 January 1999 to 31 March 1999.

The Scheme proposes a Standard Application Charge of £150, with the Transitional Application Charge being £120.

The Annual Charge is a product of 4 factors, namely: Volume Factor, Contents Factor, Receiving Environment Factor and the Financial Factor. During the financial year 1999/2000 the Financial Factor will be £315, and rising to £410 in the following financial year.

NOTES

The Groundwater Regulations are new regulations for Scotland that are being introduced to implement the EU directive on the protection of groundwater against pollution caused by certain dangerous substances (80/68/EEC).
