ROF Bishopton
Issued on 7 January 1999 - Ref W9901
SEPA has not seen the British Aerospace Environmental Report referred to in the Herald article 6 January 1998 and is therefore not in a position to comment on it directly.
SEPA is aware that some parts of the site are contaminated and was consulted on a regeneration study for part of the site known as Georgetown. SEPA would expect to work with interested parties including British Aerospace and Renfrewshire Council on a detailed assessment of the site and any subsequent proposed remediation.
At present SEPA is not in a position to comment on the degree and extent of contamination on the site as a whole without all the relevant information required.
ENDS
NOTES
SEPA expects that new Contaminated Land Regulation will come into force in July of this year. It is anticipated these regulations will require polluters to remediate land to a fit state. Guidance notes are to be provided on these regulations, but are not yet available. At present it is likely that SEPA will be the lead authority under these regulations with respect to the Bishopton site.
