SEPA Publishes 1999 Bathing Water Quality Results
Issued on 25 January 2000 - Ref 03/00
The Scottish Environment Protection Agency publishes the full Scottish Bathing Water Results report for 1999 today. The report contains the 1999 results for each of Scotland's 60 identified bathing waters (which was made available on the SEPA Website during the bathing season). It also includes the results from other coastal and inland bathing waters routinely monitored by SEPA and provides a comprehensive national picture of Scottish bathing water quality.
The 1999 season will go on record as being one of the best ever for bathing water quality in Scotland. Colin Bayes, Head of Water Policy Co-ordination, SEPA, said:
"We are very encouraged by last year's bathing water quality results, but we can't become complacent. Fortuitously good results must not be allowed to detract from the pressing need for improvements to sewerage systems and sewage treatment, and action to tackle diffuse sources."
Printed copies of the report are available from SEPA Public Affairs. The Internet version of the report is also available on SEPA's web-site.
