Councillor Susan Clark joins SEPA Board
28 March 2000 - Ref 14/00

Fife Councillor, Susan Clark, has recently been appointed to the main board of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA). Councillor Clark was elected to Fife Council in 1995 and was previously a North East Fife District Councillor. A former Chair of the Environmental Health Committee, Cllr. Clark was concerned about waste management issues. She was particularly proud of North East Fife Councils recycling systems. Councillor Clark fully supports the National Waste Strategy: Scotland, published by SEPA last December. The Strategy lays out a framework within which Scotland can reduce the amount of waste which it produces and deal with the waste which has been produced in a more sustainable way.
Employed as a Senior Social Worker with Dundee City Council, Councillor Clark is an active member of her local Church and the St. Andrews Presbytery. In the little spare time she has, she also enjoys ski-ing and playing golf. Standing looking at a snow covered landscape in the sunshine breathing fresh crisp air is listed as one of life's great pleasures for her! She has lived in Cupar for 15 years, and enjoys living within easy access to the sea.
Commenting on her appointment, Councillor Clark said:
"I want to be able to continue to influence the waste management agenda. North-East Fife Council was regarded as having a very good record on recycling - doorstep collection for paper and composting scheme. Unfortunately due to budget cuts and lack of income Fife Council chose to end these. I still believe this was false economy and the "true" price was not considered.
"I look forward to working for SEPA. Although there are misgivings about agencies such as this and their remoteness, I can see the justification for a National agenda. While I am obviously concerned with the decisions take regarding Fife, actions taken further afield in Scotland, the U.K. and Europe do have an effect. I therefore welcome the opportunity to discuss Scotland and it's issues."
