Tricia Henton, Chief Executive of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA), has welcomed the setting up of a working group to consider the environmental issues facing farming and food processing. The Scottish Executive has set up the high level group to address the challenges the industry will face over the next 10 years.
Agricultural activities can have a negative impact on the environment, and SEPA is anxious to work with the agricultural sector to prevent pollution before it happens. SEPA believes that effective measures are needed to protect and improve the environment, involving not just a positive working partnership but also a sound economic framework and a firm but fair regulatory regime.
Trica Henton commented:
“The establishment of this working group is an important first step in translating strategic principles into practical action. SEPA looks forward to contributing to the work of the group as the forward strategy for Scottish agriculture takes on a more tangible form.”
