Jim Good, SEPA’s Fife team leader, is retiring on 31 October 2002 after 37 years of protecting the environment in Fife.
Jim’s career began as an Environmental Health Officer in Arbroath, moving, in 1965, to be Environmental Health Officer for Kirkcaldy Town Council. He remained with the Council through it’s various guises until 1996 when he left his post as head of Environmental Services at Kirkcaldy District Council to join the newly created SEPA as Fife team leader.
His workload has been significant as the geography and diversity of life in Fife make it a challenging area. Jim has been involved in an enormous variety of environmental issues and at every end of the scale including working with Alcan, Mossmoran, and Westfield, Scottish Water and the paper mills to dealing with public concerns and complaints about waste, pollution incidents and even septic tanks!
Jim is married with two grown up sons and lives in Kirkcaldy. Of his retirement Jim said: “I’m looking forward to being able to choose what I want to do each day, which will include retaining a keen interest in the environment of Fife.” He’s looking forward to some interesting challenges, playing more golf (he’s a member of the Kirkcaldy Golf Club), more trips abroad with his wife and generally just enjoying life.
Jim Good is available for interview. Please contact SEPA’s Glenrothes Office on 01592 776910 to arrange.
