On 4th November 2002, at Arbroath Sheriff Court, Safedem Ltd was fined £4000 for disposing of controlled waste (namely wood) by burning at Barry Caravan Park, Barry, Angus between 31 October 2001 and 20 February 2002 contrary to section 33(1)(b) of the Environmental Protection Act 1990.
Fiona Johnstone, Environment Protection Officer in SEPA’s Angus Team said: "Uncontrolled burning of waste can be a serious hazard to human health and the environment and this practice, together with fly tipping of controlled waste are a growing concern. Any individual, business or organisation can contact their local SEPA office for guidance on staying within the law."
