SEPA Welcomes Launch of Four Point Plan
18 July 2002

The Scottish Environment Protection Agency (SEPA) has been closely involved in the development of the Four Point Plan and believes that the environment should benefit from farmers following the simple guidance set out in it.

Rob Morris, SEPA’s Land Unit Manager, said: “Widespread uptake and adoption of the Four Point Plan is expected to reduce the pollution risks associated with livestock manures and slurries, and assist in improving compliance with the EC Bathing Water Directive. Adherence to the Plan should also help to reduce pollution risks from livestock farms in other parts of the country, e.g. where pollution by nutrients is of potential concern. As well as the input of the contributing organisations, the fact that the plan has been trialled on farms has helped to ensure that its recommendations are practical. The plan is good news for farmers and for the environment, and SEPA expects to its part in promoting it in the months ahead.”
