The waste management company SITA is proposing to build and run an energy from waste plant on behalf of Aberdeen City Council.
The incineration process of the energy from waste plant requires a permit from SEPA under the Pollution Prevention and Control (Scotland) Regulations 2000 (PPC). This is in addition to, and separate from, the current application for planning permission.
SEPA has received an application for a PPC permit from SITA. It is available to the public on the public register at SEPA's Aberdeen office at Greyhope House, Greyhope Road, Torry between 09.30 and 4.30pm Monday to Friday. The application is also available on SEPA's website now.
SITA will be placing an advertisement in a local newspaper before 17 September informing the public that they have made the application and that it can be seen at SEPA's office and on the website. The advert also advises the public of the mechanism for making representations in respect of the PPC application.
There is obvious interest from those in the communities close to the site of the proposed plant. SEPA wants to ensure that they have easy access to information about this application, and SEPA's role and responsibilities
We have set up a special page on our website - www.sepa.org.uk/altens - to deal specifically with this issue. The page includes links to:
- a question and answer paper
- SEPA's energy from waste guidelines
- information about the National Waste Strategy
- other useful websites, and
- contact details for SEPA staff.
