The aim of the Area Waste Plan (AWP) is to contribute to the sustainable development of the 11 areas by developing waste management systems that will control waste generation, reduce its environmental impact, improve resource efficiency, stimulate investment and maximise the economic opportunities arising from waste. The AWP covers all types of waste (household, commercial, industrial) but focuses on municipal solid waste (MSW).

Each of the 11 waste areas has been broken into the following headings and can be found via the tabs on the left hand side of the page:

Waste Strategy Area Group
Waste Strategy Area Groups (WSAGs) are an important element of the National Waste Strategy. Here you will find out more about the each area WSAG – its members and what it does.
