3.5 Integrating Lothian and Borders BPEO Into National Context

3.5.1 Background to Integration

Whilst the 11 area waste plans and BPEOs have been developed at a Waste Strategy Area level responding to local needs it must be recognised that each local plan will contribute to the overall National Waste Plan for Scotland. There may also be opportunities for partnership working across Waste Strategy Area boundaries delivering more cost-effective and robust solutions to the changes necessary to ensure that the Lothian and Borders, and Scotland as a whole meets obligations to divert waste from landfill, increase the value recovered from wastes and protect human health and the environment. Integration recommendations will be taken into consideration by WSAG throughout the implementation of the Area Waste Plan.

3.5.2 Outcomes of Integration

The Lothian and Borders Area Waste Plan and the BPEO have been through a process of integration. A range of recommendations have been identified by the SEPA integration working group. The full list of recommendations will be covered in the National Waste Plan and will be considered by the Waste Strategy Area Group (WSAG) throughout the implementation of the Area Waste Plan.
