North East Waste Strategy Area Group
The Waste Strategy Area Group has overall responsibility for implementing the Area Waste Plan (AWP) in the North East. It was set up in April 2000 to:
- Develop the AWP for the North East
- Steer implementation of the National Waste Strategy at a local level
- Take responsibility for the ongoing development of the AWP
- Monitor progress in implementing the AWP.
The WSAG meets every six months. Its members are:
North East Waste Strategy Area Coordinator
SEPA funds Waste Strategy Area Coordinators (WSACs) in each waste strategy area. In the North East the WSAC is Lindsey Green.
The WSAC’s job is to:
- Co-ordinate the work of the Waste Strategy Area Group
- Ensure that national projects and initiatives are integrated into the Area Waste Plan
- Report on the annual progress of AWP development.
North East Working Groups
BEP-NE Working Group
Business Environmental Partnership North East (BEP-NE) is a not-for-profit organisation promoting cost savings through environmental improvement among businesses in the North East of Scotland. Its portfolio of projects is steered by a cross-sector working group. This partnership consists of representatives from:
BEP-NE has already helped over 250 businesses in the North East waste area to identify cost savings of nearly £3 million. It covers a range of sectors including food and drink, paper, oil and gas, construction, transportation, healthcare, leisure and tourism. The BEP-NE business plan for 20042006 incorporates targets to increase the number of businesses supported to over 500.
