Tayside Waste Strategy Area Group

The Waste Strategy Area Group has overall responsibility for implementing the Area Waste Plan (AWP) in Tayside. It was set up in April 2000 to:

  • Develop the AWP for Tayside
  • Steer implementation of the National Waste Strategy at a local level
  • Take responsibility for the ongoing development of the AWP
  • Monitor progress in implementing the AWP.

The WSAG meets regularly. Its members are:

SEPA funds Waste Strategy Area Coordinators (WSACs) in each waste strategy area – Tayside has one WSAC.

The WSAC’s job is to:

  • Co-ordinate the work of the Waste Strategy Area Group
  • Ensure that national projects and initiatives are integrated into the Area Waste Plan and vice versa
  • Report on the annual progress of AWP development.
  • Co-ordinate and facilitate the participation of interested parties within the NWS process

  • Used as a way to deliver training ie. business planning.
  • Allows networking opportunities.

Tayside Strategic Option Appraisal Group was set up in March 2004 to:

  • Investigate options for waste processing facilities serving both the Tayside and Fife waste strategy areas
  • Identify further best value and partnership working opportunities across the boundaries of the two areas.

  • Identify best practice on development control issues
