Local Authority Waste Arisings Survey

The Local Authority Waste Arisings Survey (LAWAS) is currently the main source of municipal waste data routinely collected by SEPA. The survey collects data on wastes collected by, or on behalf of, Scottish local authorities and is completed annually on a voluntary basis by Scotland's 32 local authorities. The survey has run successfully since April 2001, when data were collected for the reporting year 2000/2001.

The latest LAWAS questionnaire and guidance notes on its completion can be viewed here:

A combined report for Scotland and the summary LAWAS data reports for each local authority can be accessed by clicking on the appropriate links in the table below. The main outputs of the LAWAS are also published in the annual Waste Data Digest.

As from 1 April 2006, local authorities will use WasteDataFlow to report all data on their waste arisings, recycling and disposal. Information on WasteDataFlow is available here.
