Additional information on the land use planning and site search issues, based on national policy and guidance, during the "strategic options appraisal" process can be found here. SEPA would like to see these issues covered in the ongoing "strategic options appraisal" process (which is being carried out by groups of Local Authorities to consider the options for providing strategic waste management facilities to treat, and ultimately divert residual municipal waste from landfill)

SEPA is also working on production of information on the existing licensed waste management capacity across Scotland.
