Map Based Information
In order to assist all parties to the planning process,
including planning authorities and developers, we have produced a
number of map based information sources. These can be used in
preparation of development plans or development proposals and in
deciding when to consult us on certain key issues. Several need to
be used within a geographic information service (GIS) so please
contact your GIS manager for guidance on how to access these
layers. Before using any of the below data please read our Data Reuse
Statement
(28k).

SEPA Indicative River &
Coastal Flood Map (Scotland)
SEPA’s Indicative River and Coastal Flood Map (Scotland) shows
indicative fluvial and coastal flood risk areas. This map should be
used to inform sustainable flood management policy as promoted by
the Flood Risk Management (Scotland) Act
2009 and allocations in the development plan process.
This map can be used along with other information to determine when
we need to be consulted in the context of The Town and Country
Planning (Development Management Procedure)
(Scotland) Regulations 2008.

SEPA River Basin
Management Plan (RBMP) Interactive Map
The RBMP interactive map application
supports the Scotland and Solway Tweed river basin management plans
and enables a search of individual water bodies and
associated waterbody data sheets which provide information about
the current ecological status, any pressures on the water body,
measures being taken to resolve any issues and targets for any
improvement needed. Help on using the map is available
here.
Development planning authorities should have regard to this
information in the formulation of strategic and
local development plans. The protection and enhancement
measures set out in the RBMPSs and associated Area Management Plans
should also be taken account of in development management
decisions.

Waste water drainage consultation areas
GIS layer
The waste water
drainage consultation areas GIS layer (30k) shows
indicative areas where a proliferation of private septic
tanks is currently causing environmental problems. Please note
that the delineation of these areas as consultative areas does not
in itself represent any designation. The layer is merely a
consultative tool, and does not mean that drainage solutions cannot
be achieved.
This layer can be used in development
planning to identify sensitive areas where it needs to be
considered if first time public sewerage may be a requirement for
allocations. We should also be consulted on all developments
proposing private waste water arrangements in these areas to enable
us to assess any significant potential environmental and health
impacts.
This layer is an ESRI shapefile developed in ArcGIS for use
by planning authorities and may need to be installed by
technical staff for use within your existing GIS system using the
associated GIS layer
metadata (19k).
For convenience we have also provided a spreadsheet
listing these by local authority areas (30k).

| Waste Infrastructure
Maps
We have published a series of maps
showing existing waste management facilities in Scotland, in
support of the emerging Zero Waste Plan and the modernised planning
system. A guide on using the maps has been prepared and can be
found here.
This is an important step in providing clear information on
waste and waste infrastructure in Scotland to assist the planning
system. These maps have been made available for use by Local
Authorities and the Scottish Government in planning for waste
management facilities, for example in Development Plans and in the
Zero Waste Plan, as well as available as information for the
general public.
These maps are based on the National
Capacity spreadsheet 2008 data and will be updated annually as
the National Capacity work is published.
