Waste facilities

There are a number of issues which should be considered in relation to proposals for waste facilities which include those listed below. We also have further guidance on how we comment on waste management facility planning applications and waste management within development plans

For information regarding energy from waste (EfW) developments, please refer to the EfW section of our website. Further guidance for developers can be found within the Waste Regulation section of our website. Additional advice on issues outwith SEPA’s interests should be sought from your local planning office. We also have Standing advice for Planning Authorities on Extractive Waste Management Plan consultations submitted under the Management of Extractive Waste (Scotland) Regulations 2010 pdf link (74k).

Waste Infrastructure Maps

We have published a series of maps showing existing waste management facilities in Scotland, in support of the emerging Zero Waste Plan and the modernised planning system. This is an important step in providing clear information on waste and waste infrastructure in Scotland to assist the planning system. These maps have been made available for use by Local Authorities and the Scottish Government in planning for waste management facilities, for example in Development Plans and in the Zero Waste Plan, as well as available as information for the general public.

These maps are based on the National Capacity spreadsheet 2008 data and will be updated annually as the National Capacity work is published.
