PPC : UK Technical Guidance : H4 (part 1) Technical Guidance Note : Regulating & Permitting

Part 1, "Regulation and Permitting" outlines the main considerations relating to the Permitting and Regulation of odour-generating activities. It is aimed primarily at the information needs of Regulators, but also contains information which will be of use to Applicants. This Note:

  • describes the information relating to odorous releases that is required from the Operator for the purpose of making an application for an IPPC Permit
  • describes the process of determination as it relates to odour
  • provides background information relating to the human response to odours, and
  • outlines the tools available for the assessment of the environmental impact of odour.

In common with most of the IPPC guidance it is joint guidance with the Environment Agency, SEPA and the Northern Ireland Environment and Heritage Service (NIEHS)..
