PPC : UK Technical Guidance : S6.11 : Guidance for the Poultry Processing Sector

The guidance aims:
  • To provide details and summaries of the Best Available Techniques (BAT) for pollution control in the Guidance for the Poultry Processing Sector, which are relevant in the UK context. These are expressed, where possible, as clear indicative standards that need to be addressed by applicants.

  • To provide a clear structure and methodology which will help operators to make a satisfactory Permit application.

  • To increase transparency and consistency in the permitting process by providing a structure in which operators' responses to specific issues - and departures from indicative standards - can be clearly seen.

  • To highlight areas where the environmental performance of many installations in the Guidance for the Dairy and Milk Processing Sector needs to be improved as a matter of priority.

The key environmental issues for this sector are:

  • Water use
  • Effluent management
  • Odour
  • Waste handling
  • Accident risk
  • Hygiene
