Grandfather rights
We are accepting applications for grandfather
rights from 1 July 2011, and have produced an application
form that should be used by all applicants.
Grandfather rights are awarded to individuals who
are currently providing advice as a Radioactive Waste Adviser or
Qualified Expert to allow them to continue providing advice until
30 June 2016. After that date individuals will need to be
certified by an approved Assessing Body.
If you have been providing advice as a
Radioactive Waste Adviser or Qualified Expert in the last five
years, and can demonstrate that you have done so, you can apply to
the environment agencies to be awarded grandfather rights. The
mechanisms for applying for grandfather rights are detailed in the
Transitional Arrangements section of the Environment
Agencies’ Statement on Radioactive Waste Advisers.
All applications should be sent to RWA@sepa.org.uk.
To determine whether someone is eligible for
grandfather rights we are carrying out some simple checks on
applicants based on the information that they have submitted to us.
The procedure we use is the Procedure for
the assessment of applications for grandfather rights
(60k) under the Radioactive
Waste Adviser scheme.
We will announce the closing date for applying
for grandfather rights with at least six months' notice, when we
know that an Assessing Body will be ready to accept new
applications for Radioactive Waste Advisers.
