Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring Task Team
(ERMTT)
The Environmental Radioactivity Monitoring Task Team (ERMTT) was
formed because Scottish Ministers wanted Scotland to have a
'one-stop shop' for monitoring anthropogenic radioactivity in the
environment.
The team brings together technical expertise from a number of
relevant authorities, including:
- Food Standards Agency
- Health Protection Agency
- Scottish Government
- Scottish Natural Heritage
- SEPA Radioactive Substances Policy Unit, Regulatory Group and
Field Operations
- SEPA Science Directorate
Other representatives may also be invited as the team deem
necessary.
The ERMTT's objectives include:
- ensuring that SEPA's environmental radioactivity monitoring
programme, including the habits survey programme, is up-to-date and
fit for purpose
- reviewing anomalous monitoring results and recommending any
further investigation
- considering any topical issues relating to radioactivity in the
environment, and proposing appropriate action
- facilitating the integrated work of SEPA's Science,
Environmental and Organisational Strategy (EOS) and Environmental
Protection and Improvement (EPI) directorates, and SEPA's external
partners;
- ensuring the Food Standards Agency and the Scottish
Government's requirements are included in the monitoring
programme.
