Terms of Reference

The Scottish Non-Nuclear Industries Liaison Group (formerly known as the Scottish Small Users Liaison Group) has been established to provide a forum for the discussion of issues relating to the regulation of the keeping and use of radioactive substances and the accumulation and disposal of radioactive waste by non-nuclear users (referred to in some documents as “small users”) in Scotland.

The Scottish Non-Nuclear Industries Liaison Group has representatives from professional and trade associations representing non-nuclear users of radioactive substances, the Scottish Environment Protection Agency, the Scottish Executive, the Health and Safety Executive and the National Radiological Protection Board.

The Group will be chaired and Secretariat provided by SEPA and will normally meet twice per year at SEPA offices in Stirling.

The Scottish Non-Nuclear Industries Liaison Group provides a forum for non-nuclear users of radioactive substances in Scotland to make SEPA aware of concerns and problems encountered by the regulation of radioactive substances.  It is also used as a means of consulting, informing and otherwise communicating with the non-nuclear industries on matters relevant to the keeping and use of radioactive substances and the disposal of radioactive waste.

The Scottish Non-Nuclear Industries Liaison Group will publish minutes of its meetings on the SEPA website and will maintain effective communication with the Environment Agency Small Users Liaison Group.
