Regulation and Licensing : Air

Discharges to Air

Securing and maintaining good air quality is a key aspect of sustainable development, as good air quality is essential to human health.
Emissions into the air from around 2000 industrial sources in Scotland are regulated by SEPA under Local Air Pollution Control (LAPC). In addition, around 200 of Scotland's larger and potentially more polluting industrial sites are regulated via Integrated Pollution Control (IPC). SEPA regulates emissions of key pollutants, such as sulphur dioxide, oxides of nitrogen and particulates, through enforcement of authorisation conditions, site inspections, and check monitoring.
