In 2003 the Scottish Executive announced that a Scottish Pollutant Release Inventory (SPRI) would be established to gather information on emissions from industrial activities. The SPRI was created in 2004 and was the subject of a Public Consultation process about what the SPRI should contain and how it should work. You can view the original consultation here (pdf :439kb) and SEPA's response here (pdf :47kb).
The inventory contains information on the pollutants themselves, their environmental and public health effects. This information has been developed in conjunction with the Health Protection Scotland and the Health Protection Agency
This Public Access website currently provides access to data gathered under the requirements of European Pollutant Emission Register (EPER) for the calendar year 2002 and under SPRI requirements for 2004.
It is anticipated that this site will be developed over a number of years to ultimately provide all the requirements of the Aarhus convention on access to information, public participation in decision making and access to justice in environmental matters.
