Machining
Use Minimum stock blank size
If machining
is unavoidable, use the smallest amount of stock possible-will also
reduce tool wear and breakdown frequency
Segregate swarf by type for recovery
Swarf
machined from stock containing additives is often saleable at a
higher value if segregated from the remainder. Avoid contamination
of alloy swarf with other metals as this contamination reduces its
scrap value.
Tool set-up blocks minimise changeover
time
When changing from one part to another, have all
the necessary tools set up in a specially made tool block. This
will minimise changeover time and start-up waste.
