Local authority annual reports
Up to 2009 SEPA produced an annual report on
the waste collected by, or on behalf of, every local authority in
Scotland. Each report provides comprehensive information on
Local Authority Collected Municipal Waste arisings, recycling and
composting, and disposal during the relevant financial year.
Additionally, an overall Scotland report was produced.
The data for the reports was obtained from
WasteDataFlow. Prior to 2006/2007, they were gathered by
SEPA’s Local Authority Waste Arisings Survey.
From 2006/2007, the layout of the reports for
municipal and other wastes changed; this should be considered when
comparing data with previous years.
The full definition of municipal waste and any exceptions are
given in Scottish Government guidance (see opposite).
SEPA is in the process of changing the annual
reporting of LACW information.
The local authority annual reports are available

The methodology for calculating the waste recycling/composting
figures has been revised to discount weight loss from composted
waste that is subsequently sent to landfill. The data reported
under the Local Authority Collected Municipal Waste (LACMW)
summary reports for the relevant local authorities has been
recalculated based on the new methodology so that year on year
comparisons are more accurate. This will result in a minor change
to the recycling/composting figures for Scotland and for a small
number of local authorities identified in the 2007–2008, 2006–2007,
2005–2006, 2004–2005 reports. These reports will be updated in due
course.
