Application forms

Owners and/or operators of activities not covered by a general binding rule (GBR) under the Water Environment (Controlled Activities) (Scotland) Regulations (CAR) need to apply to SEPA for authorisation. This will either be in the form of a registration or a (simple or complex) licence.

You should have determined the level of authorisation and what kind of application form you need through using the CAR Practical Guide. If you are applying for a registration, you can also benefit from a reduced fee by applying online.

Registrations

Online

The easiest and most efficient way of applying to SEPA for a registration is through our online facility. To check if you can apply for an online registration, follow the relevant link:

By post

If your activity cannot be registered online, please print off the relevant application form and send it to ‘Registry’ at your nearest SEPA office (addresses are provided on the form).

Please contact your local SEPA office to request the correct fee for your application.

Please note: For each application, you will need to supply us with your National Grid Reference (NGR).

Licences

If your activity requires a simple or a complex licence, you will need to send a postal application. The same forms are used for both kinds of licence.

  1. First, you will need to complete ‘application form A’ (see table), which is used to provide us with general information about the activity(ies).

  2. Second, you will need to fill in a more detailed form (see B, C, D, E, F, G, H or I in the table), particular to your activity(ies).
