Argyll and Lochaber
The Argyll and Lochaber advisory group area extends to the north into Lochaber
as far as Loch Lochy, south to include the Mull of Kintyre and to
the western seaboard including the Islands of Mull, Coll, Tiree,
Jura, Islay, Colonsay, Gigha and the smaller islands in the area.
It also includes the coastal and transitional waters adjacent to
this area out to three nautical miles as well as groundwater, which
provides flow in many rivers. The area covers over 18,611
km2 and
is extremely varied in terms of landscape, geography, population,
land use and the range of uses of the water environment. The Cowal
Peninsula and the Isle of Bute are covered by the Clyde area management plan:
The Argyll and Lochaber Area Advisory Group comprises the
representatives of the key stakeholders and responsible authorities
for river basin management planning in the area. They hold regular
meetings and have developed a supplementary plan for the
implementation of the river basin management
plan for the Scotland river basin district.

The Argyll and Lochaber area management plan
The Argyll and Lochaber area management plan has been developed
by the area advisory group. It has three parts: a summary document,
catchment summaries and an action plan. Information can be found
about individual waterbodies via our interactive map application.

The Scotland river basin district plan includes a number of
chapters that explain the different parts of the river basin
planning process. It also sets the wider context for the Argyll and
Lochaber area management plan, including the area’s classification,
objectives and measures, which you might find useful.
Membership
Membership of the Argyll and Lochaber AAG is determined by the
range and type of pressures in the Argyll and Lochaber area.

Membership is flexible. It
will be possible for additional members to be co-opted for agreed
periods to assist with the preparation of particular aspects of
river basin planning. Such members can be co-opted onto the AAG for
single meetings, to cover specific agenda items or for a short
period to advise on a particular issue. They will not be full
members and therefore will not determine quorum or vote.
Meetings and minutes
The Argyll and Lochaber AAG meets regularly and provides a
mechanism to support the production of a river basin management
plan (RBMP) for the Scotland river basin district, and its
co-ordination with other plans and programmes.
Future meetings
The date for the next meeting of Argyll and Lochaber AAG is the
1 December 2010.

Anyone with an interest in the water environment in Argyll and
Lochaber can become a member of the Argyll and Lochaber
advisory group forum.
