Significant Water Management Issues
The Significant Water Management Issues (SWMI) reports (and
their summaries) for the Scotland and Solway Tweed river basin
districts were published in 2007.
The main focus of the report is the identification of the
significant water management issues that we think put our ability
to achieve the objectives of the Water Framework Directive (WFD) at
risk. An intermediate step in the preparation of the river basin
management plans, responses to the consultation are being
considered for the first draft of the river basin management
plans.
The report:
- provides a comprehensive assessment of the threats to
Scotland’s water
- identifies the actions and improvements that are necessary to
protect Scotland’s water
Further information
1. Detailed information on the state of Scotland’s water is
available online.
Published in 2005, this report presented the most detailed
description of the pressures and impacts on the water environment
and was the first step in the overall process of improving our
aquatic environment through the river basin management planning
process.
2. More information on the protected areas register and
maps.
The protected areas register consists of a list of sites and a
set of maps showing the relevant protected areas. The register has
been established, and must be maintained, by SEPA to meet the
requirements of the WFD.
